e-Archeo: the presentation at BMTA 2022

Last week, as every year in Paestum, one of Italy’s most renowned events for those involved in tourism and Archaeological Heritage took place: the Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism, or BMTA, now in its 24th edition.

3D Research took part to showcase two projects:

The first is CREAMARE, a European project officially launched at the end of June this year, involving 5 countries and 7 European partners in the co-creation of applications and multimedia content aimed at promoting Underwater Cultural Heritage. This is made possible through the collaboration between research institutions and cultural organizations on the one hand, and professionals from the creative and media sectors on the other (www.creamare.eu).

The project was presented by Prof. Fabio Bruno, together with the Superintendence for Underwater Heritage, represented by Barbara Davidde.

The second project, presented in the Nettuno Hall on Saturday 29, is “e-Archeo: a major national project for the multimedia and technological enhancement of 8 archaeological sites.”

The event, organized by ALES spa and CNR ISPC, aimed to present the results of the e-Archeo project, which involved numerous Italian companies, universities, and research institutes. Marco Cozza, together with Bruno Fanini from CNR, presented e-Archeo 3D, an interactive browser-based application built on the Open Source web platform ATON, developed by CNR ISPC.

e-Archeo 3D allows the visualization of 8 archaeological areas through 360-degree scenarios enriched with multimedia content of various types: videos, images, 3D models of individual artifacts. Exploration of each site is designed to be carried out in situ, by visiting the archaeological area in person, or online, from home or school.
