3D Research at the inauguration of Pélagos – Museum of the Sea AMP Capo Rizzuto

3D Research will be present at the inauguration of Pélagos – Museum of the Sea AMP Capo Rizzuto, for which it oversaw the design, the creation of the museum exhibition, and the development of the contents.

The Marine Protected Area “Capo Rizzuto” and the Province of Crotone will present the project Memoriae Maris: Geo-environmental and geo-cultural landscapes of the seabeds of the AMP Capo Rizzuto at the Fortress of Le Castella, Municipality of Isola di Capo Rizzuto, on January 11th at 10:00 a.m. The inauguration of Pélagos will instead take place at 1:00 p.m.

The event will begin with institutional greetings from the Mayor of Isola Capo Rizzuto, Maria Grazia Vittimberga, and Raffaele Gareri, Councillor delegated to the AMP “Capo Rizzuto.” The project Memoriae Maris will be introduced by Arturo Crugliano Pantisano, Director of the AMP “Capo Rizzuto.” Several contributions will follow, including from the Department of Environmental and Earth Sciences of the University of Milano-Bicocca, and from the Laboratory of Archaeology and Topography of the Mediterranean (UNICAL). Later, Fabio Bruno, President of 3D Research and Full Professor at UNICAL, will speak on innovative technologies for the study of the seabed, while Marco Cozza (CTO of 3D Research) will illustrate the multimedia setup of Pélagos – Museum of the Sea. The event will conclude with remarks by Sergio Ferrari, President of the Province of Crotone.

The Memoriae Maris project aims to promote, disseminate, and enhance the geological, natural, and environmental features of the Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) within the marine area of the Calabria Region, and was launched in 2021. Coordinated by the AMP “Capo Rizzuto,” the project involved important national partners, including 3D Research, the Laboratory of Archaeology and Topography of the Mediterranean (DiCES) of UNICAL, the Department of Mechanical, Energy, and Management Engineering (DIMEG) of UNICAL, the Department of Environmental and Earth Sciences (DISAT) of the University of Milano-Bicocca, ISPRA, and ARPACAL.

The main objective is to promote, disseminate, and highlight the features of the AMP “Capo Rizzuto”, the only national marine protected area established in Calabria.

Pélagos, whose name evokes the openness and vastness of the sea, represents the core of the Memoriae Maris project. This interactive and multifunctional museum is designed to promote sustainable tourism and showcase the beauty of the AMP “Capo Rizzuto” and the Special Areas of Conservation.

For the museum’s setup, various institutions collaborated by contributing their technical and scientific expertise in a dynamic and fruitful dialogue. The design approach of the museum route aims to offer diversity in both content and modes of experience.

The panels displayed in the rooms allow visitors to explore in depth the geological, biological, and archaeological aspects of the Crotone peninsula. Technology takes center stage in the last two rooms, creating an engaging and interactive experience that facilitates accessibility to the natural and cultural themes presented. The Virtual Reality headsets and the Touch Table, curated by 3D Research, enable visitors to closely explore sites of great interest, otherwise hidden beneath the sea or difficult to access.
