3D Research for “La Scienza si fa in 100”
- November 7, 2023
3D Research has developed a web app for the CNR exhibition “La Scienza si fa in 100” to allow everyone to participate virtually.
The National Research Council (CNR) celebrates its centenary, having been established for the first time on November 18th, 1923. For the occasion, an interactive exhibition was organized, entitled “La Scienza si fa in 100. A multisensory journey into CNR scientific research.” The installation is set up in the atrium of the central headquarters of the Institution, in Rome (Piazzale Aldo Moro 7), and is open to the public from October 20th to December 22nd.
The inaugural event was attended by prominent figures, including the President of the CNR, Maria Chiara Carrozza; Luigi Nicolais, President of the Cotec Foundation; Antonella Polimeni, Rector of Sapienza University of Rome; and Marinella Soldi, President of RAI.
“La Scienza si fa in 100” is a multimedia experience focusing on CNR’s research activities—a multisensory and interactive journey through time and space, enriched with stories, experiences, projects, and leading figures from the scientific world, with a narrative, playful, and educational touch.
The exhibition is presented as a spectacular single installation, consisting of three semi-circular screens designed to immerse the audience in an engaging visual experience. Visitors can explore the “galaxy” of CNR through an interactive rotating table supported by Braille indications. They can choose among 11 embossed drawings representing keywords, plus one dedicated to the Institution’s history. These keywords, depicted as constellations, reveal compelling stories about key figures and activities of the Institution.
The exhibition uses innovative tools and languages to effectively convey the importance of scientific research for the progress of humanity. This is achieved through the adoption of keywords that inspired the Centenary celebrations of the Institution, including sustainability, biodiversity, ecological transition, digital transition, clean energy, circular economy, life sciences, one health, cultural heritage, peace, and scientific diplomacy.
To ensure an inclusive experience, all content is available in Italian and English, with audio tracks and subtitles, as well as translations into Italian and international sign language, thus making the exhibition accessible to all visitors.
In addition, the installation can also be experienced remotely thanks to a web app developed by 3D Research in collaboration with Filippo Gabriele, which allows the public to access content from mobile devices or PCs, wherever they are.
The online experience is made possible thanks to the innovative tool developed by CNR – Institute of Heritage Science (“ATON”), which enables interactive exploration of a virtual 3D space to discover the Institution’s research projects.
The web app also allows direct communication with the central installation, offering the public an even more engaging interaction enriched with multimedia content.
